Science and Engineering Challenge

On Wednesday 30th May, a budding group of young scientists from GPS attended the annual Science and Engineering Challenge at Taree.  The day was a competition to showcase the talent of local schools and to challenge the students through a range of scientific activities.  Mr Maggs and Mrs Moore accompanied the group and said it was a great opportunity to watch the students analyse problems and create solutions to complete the task at hand.

Students said...

"I liked the interactive activities, hands on science challenges and balloon powered cars also we had to make a sky-scraper that could withhold an earth quake." - Tayla Predebon yr 6

" I liked the air-strip activity the best, we had to build an air ship (blimp).  It worked pretty well, we had great fun experience and would go back again!" - Nathan Hall Yr6

"I enjoyed our challenge Puff Puff Golf we came second and would definitely go back next year" - Azren Snow yr 5

" Our activity was to build a skyscraper and we tied 1st.  It was really fun and a great experience I learnt alot about composite materials, science info, logical and scientific thinking to solve challenges." - James McLeod yr5

Overall the day was very successfull with all students enjoying the challenges they were faced with and GPS coming in 3rd overall.  All students were a delight to take and the students look forward to more scientific challenges in the future.
